The “Iron Chef” phenomenon emerged in the early 1990’s as a popular TV show in Japan.
Its original format, fast paced action and unique commentary style galvanized a cult following the world over. The synopsis was that a man had a fantasy that became a reality in the form of a giant cooking arena – Kitchen Stadium The motivation for spending his fortune to create Kitchen Stadium was to encounter new original cuisines which could be called true artistic creations. To realize his dream, he secretly started choosing the top chefs of various styles of cooking, and he named his men the Iron Chefs: the invincible men of culinary skills. Every battle, reputations were on the line in Kitchen Stadium, where master chefs pit their artistic creations against each other.
In Sydney June 2010 and Melbourne June 2011 JTB Events Department produced the Iron Chef Events. The events brought two of the greatest Iron Chefs of the original Iron Chef series together, collaborating with locally acclaimed chefs to create true culinary masterpieces. All the action in the kitchens was relayed via live feed to large screens in the Venue Ballrooms and live demonstrations on stage by Iron Chef Chen was an exciting feature of the evening, as was participation behind the scenes of some lucky audience members. All this accompanied with entertaining commentary by two renowned food critics resulted in a unique and unforgetable experience. An event of this magnitude is something rarely seen in Australia and a must for connoisseurs of good food, good wine and good times….
